Hands–on training

The half-day workshops take place on Thursday, 8 September 2016 (the day before the conference), starting either at 9 am in the morning or at 2 pm in the afternoon. Workshop tickets are NOT valid for the conference and must be purchased separately from the conference ticket.

Kim Goodwin workshop

Workshop 1: Designing with Scenarios

You will learn you how to focus your team and persuade your stakeholders, using the power of storytelling that you get from clear scenarios. You’ll see how scenarios can drive your early sketches and deliver clear insights on new design ideas. Discover how your project can start on a foundation that meets the users’ needs.

About the host: Kim Goodwin is the bestselling author of Designing for the Digital Age. Kim has spent over 20 years in UX, both consulting and in-house. She’s currently serving as VP of User Experience at PatientsLikeMe, where her team designs a both a social network and decision-support tools for seriously ill patients, as well as tools for medical researchers to engage with patients and learn from their shared medical data. Kim also continues to help other organizations build their internal design capabilities through coaching and organizational change management.

Previously, Kim was VP of Design & General Manager at Cooper, a leading design and strategy agency in San Francisco. During her 12 years there, Kim led an integrated practice of interaction, visual, and industrial designers, as well as the development of the acclaimed Cooper U design curriculum.

Kim has led design and research projects in healthcare, aviation, retail, communication, financial services, consumer, enterprise, automotive, IT, and other industries. She speaks and teaches regularly at UX conferences around the world. Kim is based near San Francisco, she is often in another time zone, whether she’s herding cats in a conference room or photographing wildlife in places with no Internet access.

C.Todd Lombardo workshop

Workshop 2: Ready, Set, SPRINT! An Introduction to Design Sprints with C. Todd Lombardo.

Considering creating a new product or solution? Why not increase your chances of success with a design sprint? Design sprints are time-bound prototyping exercises that help your team explore new solutions, test product ideas, and validate your findings—all in a short amount of time.

C.Todd Lombardo, co-author of Design Sprint, will run this hands-on design sprint MOBX four hours workshop. Attendees will learn how to apply design sprint techniques to their projects, navigate common roadblocks, and get their whole team aligned through a mix of client success stories, individual activities, and quick-hit group exercises.

About the host: Chief Design Strategist at Fresh Tilled Soil C. Todd is a leader who wears many hats, all at once: Author, designer, scientist, professor, and visualizer. After originally beginning his career in science, C. Todd shifted his focus to product and design, ultimately innovating, designing, and managing products for countless companies large and small. C. Todd co-authored a book on Design Sprints, published by O’Reilly Media in Fall of 2015.
